Will You Upgrade to Windows 10?

Windows 10 is set to be released at the end of the month and to help you make the decision about whether you will upgrade, let’s have a look at some of the new features of Windows 10.

The Look

It has a modern look. Windows 10 has a similar design to Window 8 with bold and flat styling instead of the 3D inspired icons we have become used to.  The new design has many benefits including: easily customised windows, many elements are now clearer and the Windows are smaller due to having no borders.

Search and Start Menu

The search and start menu on Windows 10 has improved.  By simply clicking on the now separate search box it will include web search and Windows Store apps as well.  Users also have the option of turning on a function which will show the latest news headlines, sport results and local weather details when they click on the search box.

Digital Assistant

Windows 10 includes a digital personal assistant – Cortana.  This new feature allows users to monitor calendar appointments and email to notify you when you need to leave to attend events and you can also use it to add notes or appointments directly to your calendar using the microphone on your computer.

File Management

File Explorer has improved!  The ‘Up’ button is back, the top menu is set out in a ribbon so all of the common tools are easy to see and access, there is also a new and easier file copying system and it’s now super easy to move files between apps such as Outlook, Skype and Dropbox thanks to a new Share ribbon.

Other Features

There is a new notifications area which brings together all of your system and app messages and notifications together in the one place.  Also if you are using a touchscreen device, Windows 10 has more touchscreen friendly icons.

During it’s first year after release, an upgrade to Windows 10 is free if you are currently on Windows 7 or 8, so it’s certainly worth downloading and installing Windows 10 to try as you can always revert back to the previous version if you prefer.
